| Welcome to Amaranthine Rodentry! We are a registered kennel with the American Gerbil Society, however we also have degus, chinchillas, a hamster, and a rat in our midst. Our gerbils are mostly kept as pets but we do occasionally breed. January 2008Storm and Angel are finally ready to be together. After a couple of weeks of very calm and uneventful neutral-zone interactions, the girls were put together in their new home. So far, they're getting along wonderfully, and seem very glad to have a full tank to explore and run around in! Amaranthine Rodentry also welcomed a new member this month. Amaranthine's Jubilee was adopted from the Humane Society of Jefferson County where she was surrendered because of her pervious owner's allergies. She's a gorgeous golden argente girl who is of unknown age. She is on the smaller side and a little skittish, but with some good ol' fashioned love and care she should be a friendly, happy, and healthy little girl in no time. Now we've just got to find her a friend! December 2007With December comes the last of the birthday celebrations. On December 5th, 2005, Grim, Eduardo, Wilt, Lazlo, Ivy, Phoenix, and Mystique all entered the world. They were the last litter born to Frankie & Bloo. We've also welcomed a new species into our home with the adoption of Bill, a male black and white domestic rat. He was found in a parking lot outside of a grocery store. The man who saw him thought he was a pair of earmuffs at first, but when he went to go pick them up, he realized what he thought were earmuffs was actually a scared, shivering rat! So he scooped up the little guy and brought him to the Humane Society of Jefferson County. Bill is a shy guy, but he's beginning to warm up to us thanks to a lot of cuddling and some tasty treats. November 2007November is the birthday month for Duchess and Rose, who were born on the 5th in 2005. November also marks the month that we officially joined the American Gerbil Society two years ago. We have also welcomed a hamster into the mix. Zelda is a female white and tan teddy bear hamster adopted from the Humane Society of Jefferson County. The poor girl was badly abused by her former owners, who intended to use her for snake food. A woman saw the abuse and conviced her owners to give the hamster to her. This woman then turned her over to the Humane Society. Zelda is understadably skittish and defensive, but already she is starting to come around. She loves to come out for romps on the couch as long as there's no quick movements that will frighten her. October 2007Amaranthine Rodentry has adopted a lovely little female nutmeg gerbil by the name of Storm. She was adopted from the Humane Society of Jefferson County on Saturday the 13th. She appears to be fairly young, probably in the 3-6 month range, but we don't know for certain. She used to be a classroom pet who was given to a student. Unfortunately for Storm, this student had not asked her parent's permission prior to bringing her home, and when her parents found out, they were quite upset. They called the Humane Society late Friday evening and said that she would either go to the shelter or be left outside in a coffee can. Luckily she ended up at the shelter where I immediately fell in love with her during my volunteer shift the following morning. Storm is currently being introduced to her new friend, GEG's Angelica, or Angel, as we call her. Angel is a beautiful dark eyed honey from Garden of Eden Gerbils. October is also the birthday month for Lily, Lilac, Coco, Solomon III, and Mac, who all turned two on the first. Lastly, October 15, 2007 marks the date that the Amaranthine Rodentry site went live and our kennel was officially named. |
